Course: Digital Ethnography (SIMM35) 7.5 credits. The course is based on a digital ethnographical approach in order to study how social interaction and social worlds today are played out in online and offline environments. This means that traditional social scientific concepts and distinctions are articulated in new ways. A practical guide to conducting digital ethnography This course is now delivered online as a series of live sessions which fully meet the learning objectives of face-to-face training. The course will be run over two sessions: in the first session you’ll learn what to take into consideration, how to set a project up and what digital ethnography offers you that other approaches don’t. Digital ethnography has its origins in traditional ethnography. It is a digital transformation of in-person ethnography that leverages the power of smartphones and computers to help researchers remotely generate rich, contextual insights into human needs, behaviours, journeys and experiences.
